Kristol begs Bush to Pardon Torturers.

The creep of all creeps is sending Bush one last begging letter before he leaves office:

One last thing: Bush should consider pardoning--and should at least be vociferously praising--everyone who served in good faith in the war on terror, but whose deeds may now be susceptible to demagogic or politically inspired prosecution by some seeking to score political points.

The lawyers can work out if such general or specific preemptive pardons are possible; it may be that the best Bush can or should do is to warn publicly against any such harassment or prosecution. But the idea is this: The CIA agents who waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and the NSA officials who listened in on phone calls from Pakistan, should not have to worry about legal bills or public defamation. In fact, Bush might want to give some of these public servants the Medal of Freedom at the same time he bestows the honor on Generals Petraeus and Odierno. They deserve it.
He's actually calling for the Medal of Freedom to be bestowed on people who carried out waterboarding and saying that only the "demagogic or politically inspired" would wish to see torturers prosecuted.

Of course, as always, Kristol misses the point. It's not the guys who waterboarded Sheikh Mohammed who we want prosecuted, it's the creeps who gave the orders which allowed this to be done. And that's likely to include Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld etc. Those are certainly the guys who would be well advised never to leave the US again for fear of being arrested as international war criminals.

But to have someone publicly call for torturers to be rewarded is extreme even for a vacuous right wing nutcase like Kristol. He really is an immoral toad.
