Bye Bye, Sarah.

Sarah Palin has made no secret of her desire to lead the Republicans into the 2012 election, although it appears to be a desire that is not shared by the rest of the Republican party.

The Republican Governors Association announced its new leadership lineup today after their annual meeting concluded Thursday in Miami.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford was voted RGA chairman, taking over the top job from Texas Gov. Rick Perry who will now serve as finance chairman. Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour is vice-chairman, while Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will serve as chair for the annual RGA gala, and Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue will head up the recruitment effort.

Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle, Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will also sit on the RGA’s executive committee.

“Republican Governors are natural leaders who will find solutions to our nation’s challenges and bring back the Party,” Sanford said in a statement.

Not on the list? Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who also attended the Miami meeting.

And this is despite the fact that she entered the Miami meeting giving her bizarre press conference, which appears to have angered some other Republican governors.

Some Republican governors grumbled to CNN that Palin’s presence at the meeting distracted from the broader display of unity they were seeking. An unnamed GOP governor and possible 2012 contender told CNN that a joint press conference on Thursday was “odd” and “weird” and said it “unfortunately sent a message that she was the de facto leader of the party.”

It now appears as if Sarah's moment in the sun is officially coming to an end, and it's not a moment too soon.

of course 'our' Gov' Rick Perry has his 'issues' with the Trans Texas corridor and building a wall on the US/Mexico border.. finances..hmph.well, they can always get it from outside US sources (like the TTC being built by a Spanish consortium)
agh..don't get me started..can't wait for the Republican strong hold to dissipate here in TX..

Ingrid, I too, live in Texas, and generally refer to him as "Rent-boy" Rick Perry, because of his blatant servicing of big business interests at the expense of services for tax-payers.
Note that the balance almost tipped to Democrats despite the illegal gerrymandering by Republicans a few years ago. One more election to push it over the edge?
