McCain's "elitist" lifestyle.

I wonder if McCain will one day regret attacking Obama as an "elitist". Because his own life story is like the gift that keeps on giving:

The McCains increased their budget for household employees from $184,000 in 2006 to $273,000 in 2007, according to John McCain’s tax returns.
You couldn't make this up. He spends over a quarter of a million a year on butlers and cleaners and the like and he calls other people "elitist".

Unbelievable.

UPDATE:

Of course, there were Republicans during the last election who stated that marrying a woman with money disqualified one from understanding "the middle class." Are they still making the same point now I wonder?

Don't get me wrong, I think there's nothing wrong in John McCain marrying someone who is wealthy, I just don't think you can enjoy his fabulous lifestyle and call other people "elitist". That's simply dumb in my book.

But here's what Republicans were saying about this situation four years ago.

Via Glenn Greenwald.
Joseph Farah, World Net Daily, "President Gigolo?":
But if there is one characteristic of Kerry's life that should disqualify him absolutely as a candidate for president, it is the fact that he has sought out millionaire wives to take care of him.
Hannity & Colmes, Jan. 24, 2004:
ANN COULTER: John Kerry can't really speak to the middle class tax cuts, inasmuch as he is ...

SEAN HANNITY: Yes.

ANN COULTER: ... a kept man. He lives off the money made by other men and left to their daughters or wives.
Rabbi Smuley Boteach, World Net Daily, May 25, 2004:
Now, having a wife who provides you with a private jet and eight multimillion-dollar vacation homes provides for a comfortable life. But is this the right preparation for becoming president? . . .
As we all know John McCain has signed a prenuptial agreement. I wonder if Rabbi SmuleyBoteach still thinks this of such people?
Alas, there is yet one other important consideration that should get us all thinking. Before they married, Teresa Heinz made John Kerry sign a prenuptial agreement. Which begs the question: If his own wife doesn't trust him with her money, why should we trust him with ours?
I bet these hypocrites are singing a different tune now. These people really are immoral toads.

When McCain had one of his "town hall meetings" here last month, I had the opportunity to hear Cindy McCain commiserate with single working mothers about how hard it is to raise children while holding down a job.

I wonder how many of those single working mothers she was speaking to had a staff of servants and the ability to schedule their own work hours?

I almost expected her to start whining about how hard it is to find good domestics these days, and how impertinent they are.

Todd, it's simply astonishing that they are getting away with this crap. It's one of the reasons that they have taken such a wobbly over the nine homes affair; they know how close they are sailing to the wind and they are frightened that Obama might just have called them on that.
