The Challenge of Irony.

Nice attempt. The difference though is that the New Yorker cartoon was playing on the misconceptions that Obama is a Muslim who secretly hates America, both of which are false. This cartoon implies that John McCain is very old and sings about bombing Iran, both of which are perfectly true.

If the National Review wanted to produce a cartoon which depicted all the ridiculous rumours about McCain which are swirling around (which is what The New Yorker claimed they were satirizing about Obama) then they could have produced a cartoon of the young McCain giving secrets to the Vietnamese and causing American soldiers deaths and the older McCain screwing a lobbyist for the telecommunications industry whilst calling his wife a c~nt. And perhaps we could have his ex-wife weeping in a sick bed in the background begging him to act his age and return to her?

If it's rumours that we are satirizing, then that would be much nearer to what was done to Obama. I wonder if rightards would find that offensive? Or would they simply giggle at the irony of it all?
