John McCain and Barack Obama Trade Blows on Foreign Policy

John McCain really does mean to offer a third Bush term where he demands that other nations agree to bow to US demands before any negotiations can take place. This stupid policy has got the US nowhere in the past seven years and yet that is exactly what McCain is offering. More of the same.

As Obama says, just what is it that John McCain and George Bush are so afraid of?

Obama asks why it's okay to talk to Khrushchev and Gorbachev and not Ahmadinejad? But as I pointed out the other day, the neo-cons called Reagan "Chamberlain" when he agreed to talk to the Soviet Union. This is a group of people who never want to negotiate with anyone. They think if they are working "from a position of strength" that opponents will crumble. We are still waiting seven years later for this to happen in Iran and decades later for it to have any effect in Cuba. It's simply a dumb policy.

My Gosh, this guy is an idiot.

the point of war is when diplomacy has failed. According to the GOP war is the only form of diplomacy.

Even before modern warfare where armies marched to the battlefield, the commanders would go out and meet first. This was to negotiate terms and see if it was at all possible that an agreement could be made before the bloodshed.

The use of the term "cowboy diplomacy" is apt. The real wild west was never a showdown at noon, it was often conducted by ambushes and shots in the back.

Obama is right, Bush's influence is bankrupt in the world, the only way forward is through humility (which is not surrender or weakness) and diplomacy.

Alex, you got it in one. War is how these morons sort things out.

And I believe Obama is speaking for millions all around the world, not merely Americans, when he calls these loons out on their supposed "policies".
