Fundamental values

"Sometimes we may have to modify some of our freedoms in the short term in order to prevent their use and abuse by those who oppose our fundamental values and would destroy all of our freedoms in the long term."

John Reid
British Home Secretary

"Those who would sacrifice a little liberty for a perceived increase in security, deserve neither - and will eventually lose both."

Benjamin Franklin.

I'm with Franklin.

Is this not like the fire service saying:

"Sometimes we have to set fire to some of our houses, in order to prevent those who would set file to all our houses?"

I'm with Franklin too.

Yes, it's the Vietnam logic of destroying the village in order to save it.
