US dismisses Iran leader's letter
As I said yesterday, Ahmadinejad has written to Bush, the first Iranian President to write to an American administration since 1979.
I thought we would soon find out how serious Bush was about finding a diplomatic solution to the present crisis, which many think is merely a precursor to war and regime change.
Our answer came swiftly enough. Bush has simply dismissed it out of hand.Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said there was nothing new in it.
What's new in it Condi is the fact that it's the first letter between your two country's for 27 years. That fact alone meant it deserved more than this cursory dismissal which must make one question US motives. If serious about diplomacy, why didn't the US explore this unique development? While a White House spokesman said it failed to address international concerns.
That couldn't be done in a single letter, nor was that the point of the letter. The letter was an attempt to open dialogue, in the hope of addressing international concerns. The fact that the US have dismissed this opens them to the charge of seeking regime change rather than a diplomatic solution to this crisis.
So Bush continues his insane charge through the UN, demanding a Chapter VII resolution that the UN will not grant him, as both the Russians and the Chinese suspect he wants this merely to legitimise a future war against the Iranians.
His UN adventure is now approaching the brick wall that it was always destined to hit.
Bush doesn't know what he is doing, he doesn't even have a plan. I used to lament the fact that he didn't have a plan B. I was obviously overestimating him. It now appears that he doesn't even have a plan A.
