Israel Dismisses Bin Laden Tape as "Absurd Excuse".

George Bush blamed the attack on the fact that, "they hate our freedoms" without bothering to explain why no attack had been made on, say, Scandinavia.

Now Bin Laden has been more explicit.

The speaker on the tape says that the message is from "Osama to Obama".

Directly addressing Americans, it also says: "It is unfair you enjoy a safe life while our brothers in Gaza suffer greatly... Our attacks will continue as long as you support Israel."

It says: "America will never dream of security unless we will have it in reality in Palestine."

There have been many people, including Tony Blair, who have emphasised the link between international terrorism and the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

But I see today that the Israelis dismiss this link out of hand as "absurd".
Reacting to the latest audio tape, Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Andy David told Associated Press news agency: "This is nothing new; he has said this before. Terrorists always look for absurd excuses for their despicable deeds."
The notion that Muslim terrorists could be angered by Israel's treatment of other Muslims is dismissed as "absurd". So we are now being asked to believe that bin Laden, having turned himself into the most wanted man in the world, will lie about his motivation.

Because we don't want ordinary Americans making a link between terrorism and what's taking place in the Occupied Territories. Quite why more Americans haven't joined these dots before now simply astounds me.
