Sen Coburn Tells Women Crying Over Health Care "Govt Is Not The Answer".

This is an absolutely extraordinary exchange. A woman tells Republican Senator Tom Coburn that her husband has a traumatic brain injury and that his insurance no longer covers him.

Coburn's response is that neighbours need to intervene and that government is not the answer.

What in God's name is he talking about? He is implying that neighbours can somehow perform the tasks normally carried out by brain specialists.

It's got to be the most heartless exchange so far in this healthcare debate.

It is a man who has forgotten the words describing his own government, "of the people, by the people, for the people". Republicans seem to have gotten so caught up in the idea of opposing communism, a battle long over now, that they reject anything they see as "collectivist", including government itself.

Dave, I know that the Republicans are still clinging to that same sad old script, but to tell the wife of a man with a traumatic brain injury to ask the neighbours for help is insulting beyond belief.

Since Tom Coburn is also an obstetrician and surgeon I wonder if this obscene behavior was shown to any of his patients; or does he only treat needy constituents this way.

Exactly, Jim. Maybe he can ask the next ill person who visits him to seek the help of their neighbours.
