He's still speaking the truth to a tone deaf section of the electorate. The part that they will latch on to is where he says that in "a death situation" the government would intervene.
Their heartlessness is so profound that they will object to even this.

You cannot overcome fear (which is what they are using to sink the public health care plan) with logic, it simply doesnt work. What does work is mockery. Humor is the antidote to fear, just as fear is, ultimately, at the root of laughter. This is a good explaination of why Jon Stewart is the most trusted man in the "news" business, because he treats the fear with all the contempt it deserves.
If there's one thing that strikes me over and over, it's why these politicians dont answer the nutters by saying something along the lines of "WTF are you talking about? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of."
I think you are spot on, Dave, It's one of the things which Obama did best when he faced McCain. He often mocked the stances which the McCain camp were accusing him of taking as the nonsense which they were.
That's why I thought Barney Frank was superb when he stated, "On what planet do you spend most of your time?"
As you say, rationalising with them is dumb. They don't want to believe which is why only mockery works.
