"Fiscal" Conservatives.

I feel sorry for any Republican who attempts to step forward to defend the Republicans as "fiscally conservative". That's the last thing that the Republicans can claim to be. And McCain, running to provide even more tax cuts for the rich, was as far from a "fiscal conservative" as anyone could imagine.

The Republicans are now running as "social conservatives", those really are the only definitive policies which they run on.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen attempts to make the Republican case but it's a waste of time. They are not "fiscally conservative" as she claims and her rationale completely comes apart when she attempts to argue that McCain ran an "honourable" campaign. He ran nothing of the sort. He ran a disgraceful campaign, as I'm sure she is well aware.

funny how that since they no longer hold the nation's wallet, now they're fiscal conservatives. "Again".

And so, another Republican "value" shown to be mere political posturing, because it's pretty obvious that they're only "fiscally conservative" in order to thwart the spending priorities of Democrats, not because they're actually interested in "eliminating" waste.

Exactly Dave. Fiscal conservatism means cutting benefit programs which aid the poor. Pointless wars like Iraq - which cost billions - are always funded and encouraged even after the original reason given for the invasion has proven to be bogus.
