Bush tells Obama: 'What an awesome night for you'

President Bush has been released from whatever nuclear bunker the Republican Party have kept him in for the duration of this election - have we ever seen a sitting president disappear off the map the way Bush has during this election? - to congratulate Obama on what he has called his "awesome" victory.

The two-term Republican president told the Illinois senator upon his historic win: "What an awesome night for you, your family and your supporters."

Bush promised Obama a smooth transition to the
White House.
It really does feel like we are passing from the darkness into the light. The Bush presidency has been an unmitigated disaster, a government that literally thought it could make reality what it wanted to be.
The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." ... "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."
Now the mammoth task of undoing the terrible damage which Bush has wrought begins. Obama inherits a dreadful war which should never have been fought and a country with a massive deficit. He also inherits a country facing terrible financial troubles.

He has a mountain to climb but he will at least attempt to climb it realising and recognising reality. That alone will be a very welcome change from the last eight years.
