Biden is asked to explain Obama's "Marxism."

This has got to be the most ridiculous interview of any politician in this election cycle with this anchor woman asking Biden a list of questions which are simply extreme right wing talking points.

She begins by asking if Biden is "embarrassed by the blatant attempts to register phony voters by Acorn; an organisation that Barack Obama has been tied to in the past?"

But that's just her opener. Another jaw dropping moment is when she states, "You might recognise this quote. 'From each according to his abilities. To each according to his needs'. That's from Karl Marx. How is Senator Obama not being a Marxist if he intends to spread the wealth around?"

A startled Biden asks, "Are you joking, is this a joke?"

"No," she replies, "That's a question!" You can see she's quite pleased with herself at this point, she thinks the whole thing is going rather well.

She kept the best till last. "What do you say to the people who are concerned that Barack Obama will want to turn America into a Socialist country much like Sweden?"

Biden responds, "I don't know anyone who thinks that apart from the far right wing of the Republican party." The very people who I imagine wrote her questions for her.

I notice on some right wing blogs that people are claiming that Palin is asked such tough questions routinely. I await the relevant clip where Palin is asked to explain her flirtations with fascism.

Unsurprisingly, the Obama camp are cancelling any further interviews with this station:

"This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election."
As the Obama camp have made clear, "There's nothing wrong with tough questions, but reporters have the very important job of sharing the truth with the public -- not misleading the American people with false information."

Biden did well not to walk out during what was the most preposterous set of questions I have ever heard any candidate asked.

Sounds like an interview in the same style that Sarah Palin got from Katie Couric....of course it's not fair to give liberals equal treatment. It doesn't go along with the double standard liberals want to impose! It's going to be ugly no matter who wins.

YOU'VE got to be joking, right? It's a VERY legitimate question considering his policies point that way. How do you think Hitler got started. Nobody was allowed to ask the smooth talker any question that may oppose him. Obama is one scary dude and y'all better beware !!!

If someone is concerned about a particular subject then they have every right to ask it of a politician. After all they are working for us. It is then that persons obligation and duty to answer the question, not make fun of the person asking it. Remember, there are no stupid questions, just stupid politicians.

Ingrid,

For some reason this particular interview stirred the Republican base, probably because the interviewer was spouting the insane nonsense that these deluded souls believe in, and a few of them raced over here to attack me for defending Biden against what I considered to be an outrageous attack.

As you say, roll on election day, the loons are starting to get out of control. This insanity is what McCain and Palin are feeding as an alternative to having a policy.

This is amazing. When a government takes wealth from the wealthy and redistributes that wealth to others, than it is a Marxist government. If Obama does not want to do that, then he should retract his statement or clarify his position. It’s OK to be a Marxist, he should not be ashamed of it, but he should stop trying to have it both ways. Better that the American people find out the truth now than in four years. Obama, Pelosi, Reed = The Perfect Storm

According to that logic all taxation is inherently Marxist. And Obama is charging a smaller rate of taxation than that other well know Marxist, Ronald Reagan.

Nonsense. Palin came apart because she couldn't even name which paper she read, that hardly the same as being told that McCain's policies are fascist.

Contrary to what your side preaches about my side, the Nazis were ardent socialists - hence the name National Socialist German Worker’s Party. They believed in free health care and guaranteed jobs. They confiscated inherited wealth and spent vast sums on public education. They purged the church from public policy, and inserted the authority of the state into every aspect of life. The Nazis declared war on smoking, supported abortion, euthanasia, and gun control. They hated the free market, provided huge pensions for the aged, and maintained a strict racial quota in their universities. The Nazis led the world in organic farming and alternative medicine. Hitler was a strict vegetarian, and Himmler was an animal rights advocate. This sounds remarkably like your side. Indeed, today’s left wing is decidedly fascist.

I've heard extreme right wingers make this point before and it's a load of baloney. The term National Socialist Party was a misnomer. There was never any intention for Hitler to allow the workers to control the means of production, which is the definition of socialism. If Hitler were a Socialist then why did he go after trade union leaders? And why did the Nazi "Charter of Labour" give employers complete power over their workers? And why did the Nazis abolish trade unions, collective bargaining and the right to strike if they were left wing socialists?

Your whole argument rests on a name. It's simply silly.

It's also utterly irrelevant to the point I am making. I am not saying that Palin is a fascist, merely that people are wrong to say that she is asked "tough questions like this all the time."

An interviewer would have to ask her about fascism for there to be anything similar between the kind of questions she is asked and Biden being questioned about Marxism.

This seems like the Obama campaign's first attempt to stifle the press... Say goodbye to your first ammendment and second amendment rights.

This seems like the Obama campaign's first attempt to stifle the press...

So Obama decides to do no more interviews with a single news organisation which asks questions based on lies and he's "stifling" the press, yet McCain can refuse to allow Palin to ever take part in a single press conference and he's not "stifling" the press?

You guys are just too funny...

Well, I would have to say that questions that are OBVIOUSLY concocted to feed into offensive hyperbole as opposed to being what most people would regard as insulting and intelligent and respectful questions would INDEED have to be seen as not only "stupid" but offensive and insulting.

if you're going to ask a question, at least be respectful and ask a SERIOUS, legitimate question.. senator Biden was absolutely right to ask if she was serious - I would have burst out laughing. Puh-LEEZE! Grow UP already, LOL!

As far as the idea of whether it's "thisism " or thatism",or the the somewhat anaol necesity to impose some trite label upon it - why does it really MATTER? it's about what is fair, decent, honest and appropriate.

After eight years of the wealthiest people and corporations making money exponentially and essentially feasting at the trough at the expense of everyone else that actually WORKS and struggles.. it's absolutely TIME to eliminate the numerous tax breaks, dodgers and loopholes and make things FAITR again. Who do allt hese people think MADE them rich? that's right - US! LOL

Catch the clue bus already.

Amen, Hansk. I think the interviewer simply saw this as her audition piece for Fox News.

Only Sean Hannity could have asked those questions and not have been embarrassed by them.

So now that calling Obama a terrorist has been proven ineffective, they start calling him a marxist?

Why not immediately tell the truth: he is from Mars! Why isn't this being discussed? Obviously the media must be infiltrated by Martians as well! Wake up! Fight the Martians!

Yep, they call him every name under the sun apart from the name they really want to call him. They leave that for their audience to cry out. Then act as if they have nothing to do with it.
