McCain says "We are all Georgians now".

McCain has set out his version of what has just transpired in Georgia in the WSJ:

After clashes in the Georgian region of South Ossetia, Russia invaded its neighbor, launching attacks that threaten its very existence.
Isn't that wonderful? "After clashes in the Georgian region of South Ossetia". That's his attempt at fairness. That's his attempt to gloss over the fact that Georgia started the entire bloody thing. And after these "clashes" we are told that Russia "invaded" threatening Georgia's "very existence." What hyperbole. Georgia's "very existence" has never been under threat and only a lunatic would publicly state that it had been.

He then sets out his ridiculously pro-Georgian version of events...
Two years ago, I traveled to South Ossetia. As soon as we arrived at its self-proclaimed capital -- now occupied by Russian troops -- I saw an enormous billboard that read, "Vladimir Putin, Our President." This was on sovereign Georgian territory.
... which appears to be appalled that the South Ossetians do not want to be ruled by Georgia. Since when did the concept of self determination become such a crime in McCain's world?

He then reminds Russia that they should be grateful for "the benefits they enjoy from being part of the civilized world", which is truly one of the most bizarre things I have ever read. Who bestows these "benefits"? And who can take them away?

However, the bit that most shows western impotence towards Georgia and it's battle with the Russians is the level of support McCain offers. Whilst continuing to argue for Georgia's inclusion into Nato, a concept that the recent conflict ought to have eliminated for all time, he promises the people of Georgia "that the thoughts, prayers and support of the American people are with them."

Georgia's leaders had perhaps expected a little more from the right wing war mongers than their "thoughts, prayers and support", but that's what McCain is left offering.

Like all right wing morons over the past week, he doesn't have a single concrete proposal to make. Not one.

If this conflict has shown us anything, it has shown that certain sections of the right wing operate on nothing more than hot air and empty words.
