Bush Pressing To Get Bin Laden Before He Leaves Office.

Bush has decided, in the final days of his administration, that he wants to catch Osama bin Laden. He's blatantly looking for some way to rescue the disaster that is his legacy by finally going after the leader of al Qaeda. But why has it taken him seven years to get around to this?

Had he been serious about tackling terrorism, had he not sidelined himself with an illegal war for oil in Iraq, then this should have been his priority all along.

It's simply shameful that he only turns his attention to this now, in the dying days of his administration.

I agree that people are not paying enough attention to Afghanistan, but I'm not sure where Obama fits into your analogy.

He's only recently come to prominence, and the US public were ignoring Afghanistan from 2003 onwards.

Perhaps it's because Afghanistan has been pronounced a doomed effort by our allies, while the bulk of our troops are devoted to Iraq in an crazy effort to "fight them there so we won't have to fight them here".

"Them" apparently being Iraqi nationalists that have no interest in "fighting us here".

There is pretty much unanimous agreement among Democrats that Afghanistan is the war we should be fighting, with Iraq being a highly expensive distraction. The Republican fixation, however, is on "victory" in Iraq. How you come to blame Obama for this situation is, well, curious.
