Bush appeasement slur angers Democrats

There has been further reaction to George Bush's speech in Israel where he compared the Democrats to the appeasers of the Nazis.

Obama and other Democratic leaders expressed outrage at being compared to the Nazis, especially on a visit to Israel. They also condemned Bush for breaking a long-time convention against using foreign visits to score domestic points.

Obama described it as a "false political attack", saying he had never advocated talking to terrorists, while Joe Biden, the Democratic chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee, said: "This is bullshit." The Democratic leader of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, described Bush's comments as "beneath the dignity of his office".

McCain has jumped on the bandwagon and is also repeating the lie that Ahmadinejad said he wants to "wipe Israel off the map".
McCain, in a conference call with bloggers, used similarly emotional language as Bush and repeatedly accused Obama of being naive in his willingness to negotiate with the Iranian leadership. "If Senator Obama wants to sit down across the table from a country that calls Israel a stinking corpse and [whose president] comes to New York and says he wants to wipe Israel off the map, what is it that he wants to talk about with them?" McCain asked.
I'm completely used to the Republicans lying in an attempt to win an argument, it appears to be almost bread and butter to these guys, it's simply what they do. I'm simply stunned that there is anyone dumb enough to buy into this crap and vote for these utter tossers.

Oh, and McCain, despite buying into Bush's philosophy that giving a withdrawal timetable would result in chaos and genocide and "victory for the terrorists", has now given a date for withdrawal. It's 2013. I'm presuming he has simply pulled that date from his asshole as there is no way that he can pretend to know what the situation on the ground will be on that date.

It's a very odd thing for him to campaign on because he can no longer accuse the Democrats of "cutting and running" in Iraq if he has now announced a withdrawal date of his own. However, it's even worse than that. He's not saying that he thinks the US will have won the war by then, he's arguing that the war is won already.
"The Iraq war has been won. Iraq is a functioning democracy, although still suffering from the lingering effects of decades of tyranny and centuries of sectarian tension. Violence still occurs, but it is spasmodic and much reduced.
So, if the war is won, why can't the troops come home now?

This is the kind of insane argument that McCain is going to indulge in throughout this election as he attempts to be all things to all men. Both he and Bush have always argued that timetables aid the enemy and yet now he gives a timetable. This man has simply no credibility.
Republican fears that they could lose both the White House and Congress in the November election increased on Tuesday when they lost a previously safe congressional seat in Mississippi. Frank Luntz, a Republican strategist who has warned that the party faces disaster in November, said: "John McCain will not be elected on Republican votes alone. He is going to have to defeat Obama with independent voters as well, which is why he is beginning to talk about a date certain for withdrawal."

Judith Kipper, a Middle East specialist at the Washington-based Institute of World Affairs, said that McCain's reference to 100 years in Iraq was a "phrase that is going to haunt him throughout the campaign", and that his speech yesterday was designed to provide a position that was more acceptable to the electorate.
The flip-flopper has flipped yet again. He can't even sustain his own insane arguments. Now, both the Democrats and the Republicans have agreed on dates for withdrawal, with the Democrats arguing that this should be done sooner rather than later. With 63% of Americans now opposed to the war, I wonder whether most Americans will favour withdrawal in 2009 or 2013? Especially as the war is now "won".

Hmmm....

The terrorist monkey can not be negotiated with. The only reason to talk to Ahmadamadmonkey in say maybe Switzerland is to provoke him by debating his ideology and criticizing the hatred. Force him to say lots of stupid and insane things which would be widely publicized thus educating more people to his ideology's insanity. This, I am quite sure, Obama would never do.

Ouch, Obama and the poor little Dems were hit a little too close to home by what GW said. It's one of the best things Bush has ever said. Bravo! And he didn't even have to mention the Dhimmicrats or any body's name.

So sure, then he folded in Saudi Arabia, but what he said in Israel almost makes that OK.

Obviously Obama felt the shoe fit, otherwise he would have brushed it off as "he's not talking about me". Hell, one could have just as easily assumed he was talking about Jimmy Carter's recent escape from the nursing home to visit Hamas.

The White House staff were telling reporters off the record that it was a reference to Obama.

The larger question is whether talking to people like the Iranians is, in itself, appeasement. I would say it is not.
