Buildings evacuated as parts of historic Camden Lock are reduced to ashes

This probably won't matter to anybody but I note it simply because it makes me sad.

A huge section of London's famous Camden Market has been destroyed by a fire that raged out of control for several hours last night, forcing thousands of people to be evacuated from nearby homes, pubs and bars.

More than 100 firefighters struggled to contain the blaze, which tore through shops and wooden stalls at the Camden Canal Market on the north side of the market complex.

There were no reports of casualties.

Camden Market is one of my favourite parts of London, a place where an insanely energetic buzz constantly permeates. The place is so crowded that one rarely gets to walk on the pavement and usually you are forced to walk amongst cars in the middle of the road.

What a shame...
