Iraq To Cheney: “No, Big Fat No” To Permanent U.S. Bases
Well, this puts the cat amongst the canaries.... And this was delivered to Cheney in person.“The people of Iraq, the Parliament, the Council of Representative and the government of Iraq, all say no, big fat no, N, O, No military bases for Iraq because we believe that is in direct encroachment to our sovereignty, and we don’t need it.”
The problem is that the US are already building several permanent bases in Iraq. Indeed, some of them are so permanent that Camp Anaconda, for example, "occupies 15 square miles of Iraq and boasts two swimming pools (not the plastic inflatable type), a gym, mini-golf course and first-run movie theatre."
Cheney really wants the US to stay there. That must have gone down like a cup of cold sick.
Hat tip to Crooks and Liars.
