Texas Governor Spares Death Row Inmate Hours Before Scheduled Lethal Injection
It seems very rare that there is good news to report, so it's nice to be able to post this. Kenneth Foster was due to be killed simply for being the driver when Michael LaHood was murdered, despite having no idea that the murder was going to take place.
The Governor of Texas today spared his life.
"Today is a good day," family members told loved ones over the phone. "He's off death row."
From outside the state prison in Huntsville, his family reached out to other relatives and friends around the country. "I'm happy, I can call Nydesha , I can call his daughter and tell her they're not going to kill daddy tonight," said Tasha Foster, Kenneth's wife. "He's going to a different prison, you can finally hug your daddy, because she ain't never hugged her daddy."

While I'm not saying that I feel his crime rose to the level of punishable by death, to assert that he didn't reasonably believe that a murder was the likely outcome of an armed robbery spree that he was participating in is quite a stretch. If he didn't think that a murder was likely to result from the string of armed robberies, then he's incredibly stupid to boot.

For the above comment is surely one of the most obvious examples of trolling that I have ever witnessed. You have posted that, not because you believe it for a nanosecond, but purely in the hope of eliciting an angry reaction.
Well, given that the Texas criminal system has worked to what you believe is a satisfactory outcome in this case, then I don't think it's out of bounds to question whether or not it's fair. You didn't think the guy should be executed, and he wasn't. Therefore, the wheels of justice must be turning rather well down there, right?

That's like saying because the Iranians have rescinded their decison to stone two men to death for homosexual acts that I must applaud the Iranian system of justice because it eventually produced the result I craved.
No country can even become a member of the European Union whilst it practices anything as barbarous as the death penalty, so expecting me to applaud Texan justice because, in this case, his death sentence was commuted to life in prison is simply ridiculous.
And that's before we even get to the fact that Kenneth Foster did not kill anyone and was only on death row because of the heinous Texan Law of Parties Statute.
That law is simply wrong. So no, I won't be singing the praises of the Texan justice system anytime soon.
