Former CIA officer: US to attack Iran within 6 months

Former CIA field officer Bob Baer has told Fox News that the US will hit Iran within six months. Bizarrely, Baer states that the US do not foresee that attacking Iran will result in a state of war existing between the two nations.

Baer explained that what his sources anticipate is "not exactly a war." He said the administration is convinced "that the Iranians are interfering in Iraq and the rest of the Gulf" but that "if there is an attack on Iran it would be very quick, it would be a warning."

"We won't see American troops cross the border. ... If this is going to happen, it's going to happen very quickly and it's going to surprise a lot of people," said Baer. "I hope I'm wrong frankly, but we're going to see."
The notion that the the US can attack another sovereign state - again, I'm assuming without UN approval - and that this will not be regarded as the start of a new war in the Gulf region, is simply fantastical.

Under the Bush administration the US really have become a rogue superpower, a nation that demands that the norms of international behaviour and laws simply do not apply to them. Now, not only do they claim the right to attack another nation without international approval or the acquiescence of United Nations, but they reserve the right to attack another nation and not call this an act of war.

As previously suspected, it was for this reason that the Bush administration recently decided to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the elite military force that serves as the guardian of Iran's Islamic state, as a foreign terrorist organization.

Nor is this insane notion being proposed by US military commanders, who appear to be completely against such an attack:

Privately, some are hostile to suggestions that the military strike another country, saying they are mired in Iraq.

"Let them put on the uniform and go there then," said one military official in Baghdad who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the topic.

No, it would appear that, once again, it is the brainchild of Dick Cheney, the worst Vice President in the history of the United States. It is no doubt also Dick's notion that launching military strikes will not represent an act of war.

The strangest thing is that, as these deeply unpopular nutbags face the end of their time in power, they actually become more dangerous with each day that passes. Cheney is desperate to prove his belief that all power lies with the executive rather than with Congress, and a sudden attack on Iran would fit his world view perfectly, daring the Democrats to condemn the event after the fact.

This administration have never hidden their Likud agenda to attack another enemy of Israel and there is no reason to dismiss the claims that Baer is making.

Sadly, it all sounds just too plausible for these lunatics.
