U.S. Warns North Koreans About Nuclear Test

Christopher R. Hill, the assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, has issued a startling threat to North Korea over it's announced plan to test a nuclear weapon:

“It can have a future or it can have these weapons. It cannot have both.”
What is he saying? That the US are going to nuke North Korea?
“We are not going to live with a nuclear North Korea, we are not going to accept it,” he said.
Can we now expect the October surprise to come in the shape of a mushroom cloud?

The Bush administration have long lacked any effective way of dealing with North Korea, mostly brought about by their own stupidity and arrogance. Negotiation remains the only way to get the North Koreans to disarm, a route that the pigheaded neo-cons seem determined not to embrace, despite the fact that their present path seems to be resulting in a nuclear North Korea.

And now we have thinly veiled threats of nuclear annihilation as an alternative to a negotiated settlement.

There are times when people reveal themselves as unfit to govern. This is most certainly one of those times.
