Israeli strike 'kills 40 people'
"An hour ago, there was a horrific massacre in the village of Houla in which more than 40 martyrs were victims of deliberate bombing," Mr Siniora told the meeting.
He (Fouad Siniora) broke down during the address, in which he appealed to Arab states for support against Israel's "horrific actions".
And so it goes on. More than 900 Lebanese civilians have been killed so far in this dispute, a dispute caused by the kidnap of three Israeli soldiers, one from the Gaza border and two from northern Israel.
Nine hundred people for the lives of three soldiers who we still pray will be returned safe and well. Although the Israeli actions can only have placed them in much greater danger.
As I write this Bush is speaking live on TV about the need to preserve Israel's security. I notice he makes no mention of the security of the people of Lebanon.
He's also just mentioned Syria and Iran funding Hizbullah whilst making no mention of the enormous amount of funding the US makes to the Israeli war machine. $6 billion a year at the last count.
Although the funniest thing is that he had talks with Abbas and reassured him that he is interested in a democratic state being set up Palestine. A Democratic state? Will that be a democracy like the one that elected Hamas that he then chose to punish for making a democratic choice that he disagreed with?
Watching Bush on the screen we keep inter-cutting to images of what is actually taking place in Lebanon and Israel as he speaks. I've never seen a better example of how removed from reality this man is than what I am watching at this moment.
He's now talking about convincing people that certain state's sponsoring of terrorism is unacceptable. As the Israeli air force pounds the Lebanese people in an attempt to force them - by their own admission - into rising up and bringing down Hizbullah. Of course, a state terrorising a civilian population in the hope of changing their governments actions is almost a textbook definition of terrorism. So Israel, by committing what certainly looks to me like acts of state terrorism, is funded by the US.....
And no, I don't expect him to make the connection. In his mind terrorism is committed by the "evildoers", it would be unthinkable to Bush that he could be sponsoring such a thing.
He's also asked that we remember how this began, through the kidnap of Gilad Shalit and the other two Israeli soldiers. He's ignoring the fact that the day before Gilad Shalit was kidnapped that Israel entered the Palestinian's territory and snatched two civilians. However this event has been removed from the US/Israeli timeline. Kidnap is only something that Hamas and Hizbullah are capable of. Israel makes arrests, even when she has to cross borders into other people's territory to do so.
Meanwhile back on planet Earth:
People keep asking me, "Do you know when it will stop?"
I shrug my shoulders, and say: "Your guess is as good as mine."
Then they ask: "But Beirut - will they bomb Beirut again?"
"What would be the point?" I reply.
Then they bombed Beirut again.
God, it's so bloody depressing.
Lebanon's prime minister has said only one person was killed in an Israeli air strike that earlier he said had killed more than 40 civilians."They thought that the whole building smashed on the heads of 40 people," Fouad Siniora told reporters in Beirut. "Thank God that they have been saved."
