Lebanon seeks Israeli ceasefire
If this doesn't stop soon I am going to spontaneously combust.
I wrote just this morning that Olmert would now, with two further Israeli soldiers kidnapped, finally have to come round to the negotiations that he has swore he will avoid.
Could I have overestimated his intelligence anymore than I did?
The Lebanese are attempting to negotiate a ceasefire which Israel do not look like they are likely to acquiesce to. They will literally keep firing it seems until they are handed back their soldiers, dead or alive. And, to be honest, the longer they engage in these acts of rampant violence, the more likely it is that their soldiers will be killed. That fact seems not to be troubling Olmert, who's more concerned that he might look weak.
The outcry is now, with the obvious exceptions of the US and the spineless Blair, becoming world wide. Russia, France and the EU are now all condemning Israel's reaction to the kidnap of the two soldiers and saying that their reaction is disproportionate.
Although, even the word "disproportionate" doesn't really express the sheer orgy of violence that Olmert is indulging in.
Israeli jets bombed the main Lebanese army air base in Bekaa Valley. The people of Lebanon did not kidnap these soldiers and should not be being punished for the actions of other people. To punish them is to indulge in collective punishment which is a war crime.
Israel is imposing an air and sea blockade on Lebanon following the two soldiers' capture by Hezbollah.
Israeli warships have blocked Lebanese ports, and its international airport was closed after Israeli bombing.
Raids on targets across south Lebanon have killed at least 48 people, mostly civilians, while an Israeli civilian died in Hezbollah attacks on Israel.
People on both sides of the border have been fleeing.
It's the strangest way to ensure the release of hostages that I have ever seen in my life.
Olmert now behaves like he's Sharon on smack.

I've said it more than once today, but I am going to say it again. I think the whole thing is going down the drain. I feel like everyone is going crazy. THis is a prefect example of lunacy.
Cyberotter, I would disagree. It's not lunacy. It's pure genius. Think about this: if the U.S., England, and Israel are all part of the same plan to crush the Middle East, then what better way to do it than to begin by crushing their spirit? And what better way to crush their spirit than to just throw down the gloves and crush Palestine AND Lebanon. The rest of the Arab and Muslim world will lose its most prominent rallying point, thus weakening them on the level of the soul. Then, they can much more easily destroy Iran, Syria, and all the rest. The dominoes of despotic democracy are falling on the heads of the innocent masses. No, not lunacy. Perfectly sane, cold, calculated genius. These guys didn't get into power by being dumb. They got there by being brilliant and evil.
Personally I have no problem with evil as you can see here., but it saddens me to think evil is the only way to create power.
