1984 is here.

The move towards us all living in a George Orwell 1984 world are already well under way. We now actually have a President who argues that "war is peace" and a House who have voted for "perpetual war". Maybe they're both unfamiliar with the book and are unwittingly playing to it's central themes.

But what's astonishing is just how open the police are becoming about demanding that we must simply accept this situation.

For instance there has been some concern in LA where the police have launched a new drone that will silently fly above the city sending information back to police headquarters.

Local residents complained that they found the idea of police listening in to barbecue conversations unsettling.

The police response?

Police say the concerns are unwarranted because everybody is already under surveillance.

"You shouldn't be worried about being spied on by your government," said Commander Heal. "These days you can't go anywhere without a camera watching you, whether you're in a grocery store or walking down the street."

There. Bet you feel better now you've had that reassurance!
