Israel to release $60m of funding

It now appears as if the US/Israeli plans to starve the Palestinians for daring to vote for Hamas has withered under EU opposition.

First to cave were the Americans , who agreed to a "limited" financing of Palestinian workers to avoid hardship in Gaza.

Now Israel have agreed to hand over $60m (£32m) in duties owed to the Palestinians to boost the funding mechanism being drawn up in an effort to stem a mounting humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank.

But the real news coming out of the Occupied Territories, which the US and Israel will do their very best to play down, is that:

A group of Hamas members in Hadarim prison joined with ones in Fatah in backing the goal of a Palestinian state on the borders with Israel which existed before the Six Day War in 1967.

The move appeared to be a significant modification by the Hamas prisoners of their long-held stance in favour of eliminating Israel.

The reasons for Israel failing to negotiate with the democratically elected government of Hamas become more spurious with each day that passes.

They have now been operating a cease fire for more than a year, have offered Israel a deal of quiet for quiet, and now are willing to talk about a return to the 1967 border.

However, in order for Israel to continue with her planned theft of their land, the US and Israel will continue to refer to them as terrorists and people that cannot be negotiated with.

Twas always thus.
