Iran drops 2,000 shells into Iraq.
In a barely reported incident, Iran has fired some 2,000 shells into northern Iraq in a sharp escalation of the confrontation between the US and Iran.
As far as I have been able to establish, it appears to have been an act of revenge on the Turkish Kurd rebel group, the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) which has bases on and around Qandil Mountain in the far northeast of Iraq, who are said to have carried out a rebel ambush that killed five Iranian soldiers.
It nevertheless shows that Ahmadinejad is not backing off from any action that the US could regard as provocative.
This is the first time Iran has opened fire on Iraq since the US invasion in 2003.
The fact that the Bush gang have made no public denunciation of this action, perhaps gives credence to the belief that Bush is playing a game of bluff with Iran when he refuses to take his insane plans for military action off the table. One would have expected the Bush regime to be all over this like a rash.
After all it's an attack by the man Bush has labelled "the new Hitler." And yet... nothing.
Their silence is rather telling.
