Confident Democrats Lay Out Agenda
At last the Democrats appear to have the courage to step up to the plate and say what they will do if they seize control of the house in November, and they are not ruling out impeachment.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said in an interview last week that a Democratic House would launch a series of investigations of the Bush administration, beginning with the White House's first-term energy task force and probably including the use of intelligence in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. Pelosi denied Republican allegations that a Democratic House would move quickly to impeach President Bush. But, she said of the planned investigations, "You never know where it leads to."
In recent days, Democratic confidence has been buoyed by a series of polls indicating that not only is Bush growing increasingly unpopular, so are Republicans in Congress. An Associated Press-Ipsos poll released Friday found that 33 percent of the public approves of Bush's job performance, the lowest rating of his presidency. And only 25 percent approves of the job Congress is doing, a figure comparable to congressional approval ratings before the 1994 elections that swept Republicans to power.
The AP-Ipsos poll found that 51 percent of Americans say they want Democrats rather than Republicans to control Congress. Only 34 percent favor Republican control.
"We have to be ready to win," Pelosi said, "and we have to tell [voters] what we will do when we win."
Republicans say Democratic leaders run the risk of looking overconfident -- if not foolish -- in predicting they will win the 15 net seats necessary to take the House.
I think the Republicans have already privately conceded that they are going to lose the House and that they are simply spouting meaningless nonsense.
And I don't think the Dems should shy away from the subject of impeachment. The President has been behaving illegally and this should be emphasised at every juncture. For too long the Dems have seemed frightened to go on the offensive, I am pleased to see this gradual shift in their demeanor.
The Bush White House teeters on the edge of collapse. The Democrats must show that they are the people to replace it when this edifice finally crumbles under the sheer weight of the indictments heading towards it's current inhabitants.

The Democrats haven't come up with anything that is meaningful. They say we are going to fix this and yet they don't say how they are going to fix it. They say we plan to do this and yet they don't say how it will be paid for ( you better beleive your taxes are going to go up when they say we will do this for America). But of course none of you liberals have a problem with any Democrat that wants to raise taxes as long as they say we are going to give you everything you have ever desired.
If their plan for our National Security is any indication of what Bela Pelosi has planned for us if heaven forbid the Democrats find a way to win majority in the House or Senate I would hate to see a domestic agenda from the wacko left.
I don't think any Republican is in a position to preach fiscal competence after the mess Bush has made of the deficit.
And maybe the US will discover what we have discovered here in the UK. If you want a decent health service you have to pay for it through taxation.
You currently pay more for your health needs per head of capita than any other country on the planet and yet, in every measurement, you fall behind the Europeans.
Your way simply isn't working. Hopefully the Democrats will look more towards the European system where all health care is free at the point of entry.
