Clinton: We Must "Get Off Our Butts" to Stop Warming

"I am not one of those who is pessimistic about the future of the world, assuming we get off our butts and do something about climate change in a timely fashion." These were the words of President Bill Clinton as he spoke to the graduating class at University of Texas' Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.

What struck me at first is the reminder that Clinton never attempted to use fear to get his message across, unlike the present occupant of the White House who uses imminent attacks, "nukular" and otherwise constantly, as away of forcing through his agenda.

Clinton also reminded us that global warming is a greater threat to our future than terrorism.

"Climate change is more remote than terror but a more profound threat to the future of the children and the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren I hope all of you have," Clinton said."It's the only thing we face today that has the power to remove the preconditions of civilized society," he said.

During Clinton's administration, the global Kyoto Protocol to curb the release of greenhouse gases was created but the Bush administration has rejected it on grounds it will hurt the U.S. economy."

I think we should be in the Kyoto climate change system," Clinton said. "We can't solve global warming or any other problem in the world you can mention that amounts to a hill of beans by ourselves."
When I listen to Clinton I am reminded of a loss that is the world's, not just America's. We were once led by a true statesman.

In his place is a man who says global warming "may" be happening, "but the cause is not clear."

Maybe Mr Bush should watch this film by the man who "used to be the next President of the United States".

Clinton was the epidome of the "Do Nothing" President. He didn't even sell the ridiculous Kyoto Treaty to his own party that helped vote it down 99-0 in the Senate. NOW he has the balls to tell us that it's a problem? Bull. This whole thing is an anti-Capitalist HOAX. Nothing more, nothing less.

Kyoto was slammed by Congress under Clinton. He's going to spend the next twenty years going around re-writing to his vain benefit, and then wagging his finger at us in his red-faced baby tantrum/indignation act.

So depressing to live through. Liars win.
