U.S. blocks UN statement slamming IDF shelling

If Americans want to know why there is such indiscriminate hatred directed towards their country from the Arab world, they would find the US governments voting record at the UN - regarding Israel's behaviour towards it's neighbours - as a very good starting point.

18 palestinians have been killed since last Friday from what has been described as "indiscriminate shelling" of the Gaza Strip by the IDF.

A recent attempt to censure Israel was vetoed, as usual, by the US; an action it takes so often that it has come to seem routine.

From Ha'aretz:

Palestinian UN observer Riyad Mansour strongly suggested that the United States was the lone holdout against the statement, though he did not mention the U.S. by name.

He referred to "one member who is shielding and protecting the Israeli actions and aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and in other parts of the occupied territory."

U.S. Ambassador John Bolton would not say if the United States was the only one opposed.

"If I were the only holdout I'd be proud of that fact," Bolton said after the council could not agree on the text.
The US citizens need to realise just how often their government's actions are outside the vast majority of world opinion on this issue.

It is this prevention of any condemnation of Israel's actions that makes the US government seem complicit in the violence.

Don't be so one-sided. The Palestinian people have sponsored and carried out years of terrorism against Israel, with no condemnation or punishment from the UN.

I am glad the US has Bolton to slap some sense into the useless UN.

I love how you think I am being one sided! That's exactly the American viewpoint I am discussing. Do you know how many times the US have vetoed UN resolutions against Israel?

And when you speak of Palestinian violence, can you name any occupied people who did not respond with violence? The act of occupation is, of itself, an act of violence.
