Thatcher blamed for lack of respect in classrooms
Margeret Thatcher, and the attitudes she encouraged, have been blamed for the breakdown in today's classrooms.
Brian Garvey, the NASUWT's new president, made the comments yesterday as figures released by the second largest teachers' union showed that compensation payouts to its members had leapt to £7.6m for the first time amid a rise in pupil violence."I make no apology in adding my name to the long list of people who feel that Margaret Thatcher did more harm to the society in which we live than anyone else in modern times," he said. "The 'I'm all right Jack' culture which she encouraged did more to destroy our society's social structures than anything else did.
Thatcher, one of Britain's most controversial leaders of all time once famously stated that, "There is no such thing as society". She also claimed that she did not believe in consensus. "There are still people in my party who believe in consensus politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors... I mean it."
The damage this woman did to Britain's social fabric is still being felt to the present day.
The damage she did to Britains working class during her time in office is incalculable.
She is the reason that the Tory party remain unelectable. It will be a long time before Britain forgives the party that delivered that monster to a position of power.
Read the story here.
PS. I feel compelled to add a few more of her choice remarks to give some indication of why I loathe the woman so much, and to give you some indication of her madness.
On nuclear weapons: A world without nuclear weapons would be less stable and more dangerous for all of us.
On Northern Ireland, a place where great strides have been made since her policy was abandoned: I have made it quite clear that a unified Ireland was one solution that is out. A second solution was a confederation of two states. That is out. A third solution was joint authority. That is out-that is a derogation of sovereignty.
On Christianity: No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions - he had money, too.
Again, on consensus: To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects.
All of the above quotes come from here.
