Official: Iraq war led to July bombings

Well, talk about stating the bloody obvious. From today's Observer.

The first official recognition that the Iraq war motivated the four London suicide bombers has been made by the government in a major report into the 7 July attacks.

Despite attempts by Downing Street to play down suggestions that the conflict has made Britain a target for terrorists, the Home Office inquiry into the deadliest terror attack on British soil has conceded that the bombers were inspired by UK foreign policy, principally the decision to invade Iraq.

I've never understood Blair's reasoning when he argued that 7-7 was unrelated to his decision to invade Iraq. I've always taken it as a sign of how delusional Blair has become that he could even attempt to frame the argument in the way that he did.

The findings will prove highly embarrassing to Tony Blair, who has maintained that the decision to go to war against Iraq would make Britain safer.

Blair's argument that al Qaeda would have attacked us anyway, even if we did not align ourselves so closely to American foreign policy, ignores one major point.

If al Qaeda simply hate "the west" and all our values, why don't they attack Sweden?

The simple truth is that Sweden, which holds all the same western values, doesn't go around bombing Muslim countries and claiming it's "liberating" them.
