McClellan attacks the Washington Post and ABC

As I reported here, the Washington Post have said that when Bush claimed to have found WMD in Iraq in the shape of mobile labs, that he had already received a report stating that this was not true.

Well, well, well, wee Scotty McClellan has gone apeshit at today's press conference.

McClellan said the Post story was "nothing more than rehashing an old issue that was resolved long ago," pointing out that an independent commission on Iraq had already determined the intelligence on alleged Iraqi biological weapons was wrong.
You'll notice that he's saying the intelligence was wrong. This doesn't address why the President made a false claim when he should have been aware of new evidence to the contrary.

When an ABC reporter pressed McClellan on the subject at his morning briefing, McClellan upbraided the network for picking up on the report.

"This is reckless reporting and for you all to go on the air this morning and make such a charge is irresponsible, and I hope that ABC would apologize for it and make a correction on the air," he said.

Apologise? For what? For reporting that there was evidence that contradicted the President's insane statement that the President should have been aware of?

I must be honest. I have a scintilla of pity for Scott McClellan. Imagine having to go out day after day and defend Bush's competence?

There's not enough money in the world to make me apply for that job.
