The Listening President

It actually gets more ridiculous by the day.

First, we learn that Bush is illegally wiretapping US citizens who he thinks may be talking to people overseas who may be members of al Qaeda. When challenged on acting outwith of FISA, and therefore outwith the law; Bush doesn't even attempt a denial. Instead, he bullishly admits it and almost dares people to impeach him.

Yesterday, I reported on how it appears the US wiretapped Greek officials, including the Greek Prime Minister, for over a year. Greece, it should be remembered are supposedly allies of the US.

And now this:

Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales left open the possibility yesterday that President Bush could order warrantless wiretaps on telephone calls occurring solely within the United States -- a move that would dramatically expand the reach of a controversial National Security Agency surveillance program.
There really is no-one that this President won't listen to. As long as it's illegal.
