Are you sure this is "new"? Palast's report is actually about the 2000 election.
In other countries, it called a coup but in the US it is called constitutional democracy.
I believe that a malaise has taken hold of the American society because of all the trespassings Bush did on Democracy. The sad thing is that ordinary citizens are being preoccupied by wars and terror threats and have not been able to open their eyes on the terrible reality of their country. They are living a political and military coup since 2000.

Even if it's not new, the point remains valid that Bush and his cronies stole the elction. And, as you rightly point out, ordinary citizens seem to be allowing it, or at least to be ignoring it.
