Obama: Reaching out to enemies makes sense

There are times when Obama is too intelligent for the right wing to handle and he takes them apart with simple common sense. Their latest rantings regarding Hugo Chavez and that hand shake is a case in point.

Right wing brains seem almost hard wired into seeing the world through their own insanely narrow prism. Their world is a very simple one in which they see good and evil and know which side they are on. They are the good guys. That's why Obama confuses them so much and brings out this irrational hatred in them. He just talks too much common sense and they don't like common sense. They much preferred Bush's world of black and white and good and evil, as they knew where they were then.

They have yet to accept - as we see from the tens of them flocking to their silly tea parties - that their philosophy on this and many other matters was overwhelmingly rejected by the American people.
"The whole notion was that if we showed courtesy or opened up dialogue with governments that had previously been hostile to us, that that somehow would be a sign of weakness," Obama said, recalling his race for the White House and challenging his critics today.

"The American people didn't buy it," Obama said. "And there's a good reason the American people didn't buy it — because it doesn't make sense."
He also points out that Venezuela has a defence budget which is one six hundredth of that of the United States.
It's unlikely that as a consequence of me shaking hands, or having a polite conversation with Mr Chavez, that we are endangering the strategic interests of the United States. I don't think anybody can find any evidence that that would do so. Even within this imaginative crowd I think you would be hard pressed to paint a scenario in which US interests would be damaged as a consequence of us having a more constructive relationship with Venezuela.
That's just way too sensible for some of the bat shit crazy conservatives who need no evidence of any kind to know evil when they see it.

They know Chavez is evil because he hated their last Great Leader. And all this common sense Obama is talking is simply making their heads hurt. You can see why the right wing loathe intellectualism. It confuses them.

Stunningly accurate. The only characteristic you missed is that they have to have an authority figure to tell them what to think. A hateful, abusive daddy figure.

Nunya,

Oh, their love of the authoritarian mindset is one of their most distinguishing features. And I simply love your description of it:

"A hateful, abusive daddy figure."

Indeed.
